The South Australian Government has partnered with Villawood Properties to launch an innovative and environmentally conscious housing development in Aldinga. This 45-hectare project, located in Adelaide’s southern region, will deliver over 800 new homes in a net zero-carbon community, designed to prioritize sustainability and affordability.
Key Features of the Development:
Sustainability at its Core: The Aldinga project sets a new standard for green living. Homes will be built with energy-efficient features, such as solar panels, heat pumps, batteries, and a microgrid, aimed at reducing energy consumption and costs. All properties will be gas-free and constructed with sustainable materials to create a future-proof community.
Affordable Housing: At least 25% of the homes will be designated as affordable, providing accessible options for families and individuals looking to enter the housing market. The development will offer a mix of townhouses, detached, and semi-detached homes to cater to various lifestyle needs.
Over 55’s Lifestyle Village: Central to the community is a purpose-built Lifestyle Village for residents over 55. This area will feature world-class amenities, including a clubhouse with a pool, spa, gym, and co-working spaces designed to foster active and social living.
Green Spaces & Recreation: The master-planned development will have 16% open space, featuring parks, reserves, and tree-lined streets with a 25% tree canopy cover, providing shade and promoting outdoor activities. A residents’ club complete with a pool, gym, and café, will also be a central gathering point for the community.
Location & Infrastructure:
The development is strategically positioned near major roads and adjacent to the new Aldinga Payinthi College, making it ideal for families. Additionally, the State Government has preserved a 60-metre rail corridor through the site, keeping options open for the future extension of the Seaford rail line to Aldinga, enhancing transport connectivity.
Public engagement on Villawood’s draft master plan will take place later this year, with construction expected to begin in 2024.
